Slasher movies are time and time again a guilt-ridden pleasure for numerous film enthusiasts. Yes, they won’t reap censors’ numbers. They won’t acquire A+ scores from the movie media. They won’t also acquire C scores from home-grown internet pundits. Hacker movies will forever be scream-filled narratives with meaningless plots.

But during the times, these slasher flicks have imprinted – excuse the pun – a niche of their own.

A big portion of the victory of these slasher movies can be credited to the Friday the 13th program and its 15 manifestations. Friday the 13th is a series of flicks that was lead by a hockey veil-wearing psycho killer named Jason Voorhees. So popular is this program that it has become a core of pop culture, being recommended in many media outlets for a nice part of the newly concluded century.

In 2009, a reboot of the program will be presented for the film going public to experience. Once again, lovers of slasher movies and individuals who are neophyte to the genre will get to face the father of slasher-themed flicks, this time reinvented for the latest generation.

Right, Jason Voorhees is going to make a return!

This time, he won’t be battling another film fiend icon. He won’t be in space, freed from years of cryogenic deam. He won’t be warding off the dare of a woman telepath.

As a substitute, we will witness, or re-witness, the birth of a serial killer. We will unearth the story that produced a horror like Jason Voorhees. We will see him threaten the unlucky vacationers enjoying the hot waters of Camp Crystal Lake.

It’s 2009 and it’s time for another Friday the 13th!

The remake is done by Marcus Nispel, who also directed the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The film will present Derek Mears as Jason Voorhees, with Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti portraying the man and woman leads, respectively.

The film will be released on a Friday the 13th, specifically February 13, 2009.
